Kellen Murphy Event
Ballin for Causes will be holding an event for 24 year old school teacher from Ector Texas, Kellen Murphy. 100% of the money raised will be donated to Kellen Murphy to help with his battle of brain cancer.
Thanks to the Bonham boys basketball Head Coach Scott Ellis for his help pulling this event together! The Kellen Murphy Event will be held at the Bonham high school gym the first weekend of August 2017. Coach Ellis, along with Coach Morfield, and Coach Brakes will hold a 3rd-6th camp, and later that same day, an Elite camp for 7th grade thru 12th grade. More details about the event coming soon!

Coach Morefield is the head coach of University of Mary Hardin-Baylor girls basketball program. He spent eight seasons as an assistant coach on Scott Drew’s staff at Baylor University. The Bears advanced to two NCAA Tournaments during his tenure, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2010. Morefield also coached three future NBA players at Baylor, with two of those going in the first round of the NBA draft. He was twice named one of Rivals.com’s Top 25 recruiters and helped recruit six Top 20 national recruiting classes over a ten-year span. With the Bears, Morefield served as the team’s recruiting coordinator, oversaw the offense, supervised individual workouts and scouting. Morefield moved to Baylor after spending five years as an assistant coach at Valparaiso University under Homer and Scott Drew. The Crusaders posted four 20-win seasons in that time and made three NCAA Tournaments appearances. He spent four years as a student assistant at Valparaiso and the Crusaders recorded at least 20 wins in each of those seasons, made three NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2008. Morefield has one year of professional experience as an assistant coach with the Texas Legends of the NBDL and was also a draft consultant for the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets in 2012. He has coached a pair of professional teams in international competition in the off-season and has also coached two Athletes in Action teams on international tours.
Morefield spent the 2014-15 season as the boys’ basketball coach at Vanguard College Preparatory School in Waco. He led the Vikings to a 26-5 record and the TAPPS Sweet 16. He also served as girls’ basketball coach at Texas Christian Academy in Waco for one year and also works with a developmental basketball program in Waco. Morefield is a 1998 graduate of Valparaiso University.
Morefield spent the 2014-15 season as the boys’ basketball coach at Vanguard College Preparatory School in Waco. He led the Vikings to a 26-5 record and the TAPPS Sweet 16. He also served as girls’ basketball coach at Texas Christian Academy in Waco for one year and also works with a developmental basketball program in Waco. Morefield is a 1998 graduate of Valparaiso University.
CHUCK BRAKES
Head Coach
Born and raised in Chicago IL and in France, Coach Chuck enjoyed a life filled with good education and good basketball production. He learned the game of basketball from his father who had a 12yr basketball career overseas most of it spent in the south of France. In high school, he was named to the 1989 and 1990 All-Catholic League; the 1990 Chicago Sun-Times All-Area Team, and the 1990 IBCA All-State Team. His senior year he was ranked as one of the top 100 players in the country. Bringing his talent to a larger stage, Coach Chuck was a scholar-athlete at Marquette University. His basketball accomplishments include ranking 6th in All-Time Freshmen Season Rankings and in 3-pt Field Goal Percentage (min att.) at 40.7%. Coach Chuck proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio TV Broadcasting in 1994.
Beyond the collegiate level, Coach Chuck was invited to the National Basketball Association Denver Nuggets Rookie Camp. He went on to play professional basketball in Australia and Alberta, Calgary, Canada. A sought after coach because of his strong coaching regimen, Coach Chuck has enjoyed coaching camps at Marquette University and University of Illinois along with being an AAU boys coach 2006 – 2011.
